Why every site needs a foundation stone

Before we draw anything we write one sentence about what the site must do. Here is how, and why it saves weeks.

Every project at Corvane begins with a foundation stone: a single sentence, carved in plain words, that says what the site must do for whom. It sits at the top of the shared plan and it does not change without a meeting.

How we write it

We ask the client to finish the sentence: after visiting, this person will be able to. If the ending is vague, the site will be vague. If it names an action, we can measure it.

Then we test it on someone outside the project. If they can repeat it back, the stone is set.

Why it saves time

When a stakeholder asks for a carousel in week six, we read the stone aloud and ask whether the carousel helps. Most of the time, it does not, and the conversation takes two minutes.
